3 NATURAL REMEDIES FOR BETTER SLEEP

That’s not exactly how everyone feels after a night of sleep. It's because of something we now know about called “Sleep Debt.”
Just this weekend, at a wellness event, I almost sold out of my Say Goodnight herbal blend. I was kind of surprised.
I love to sleep and have always made an effort to get a full 8 hours, because I am a sad person if I don't. Yes, even as midwife I've had to learn coping skills and rely on my partner to let me catch up on sleep after a long birth.
I'm realizing how many people, and especially young women, are lacking in sleep.
WHY IS SLEEP SO IMPORTANT?
Our body does the most work on restoring, repairing and detoxing while we are asleep! Actually just being horizontal allows your liver to function better.
Way back when I started reading about ancient healing modalities, this was one of my first takeaways: Lay down for 10 minutes after eating and then take a 10 minute walk. This magic combination improves digestion, detoxing and energy metabolism (the rate at which you burn calories). You might already feel the urge to lay down after eating! You are picking up the right signals, now just do it.
That’s just one of the ways you can improve your health by resting. I want to break down a few other key points about sleep and restoring function to our busy, often stressed-out bodies.
1. Sleep 8 hours a night (at least 5 nights a week).
2. Sleep in the dark. Turn off or cover up anything that glows. Turn off the TV, cover any lights from the routers, cable box, alarms, all the things. Make sure you get as close to the darkness outside as you can. Doing this triggers your bodies ability to get into deep sleep.
3. Turn off electronics 30 minutes to 1 hour before you want to be asleep. Read a book, journal or have some family time to wind down.
Upping your sleep game can change your life. Sleep debt can be the root cause of many symptoms.
